Is it possible to reset/restore passwords or restore default configuration on ProCurve switch 5300xl, when reset and clear buttons are broken? For example, such operations are possible on Cisco routers via console session (during booting up). Is it possible with ProCurve?

If the reset and clear buttons are truly broken, then you should have the switch replaced by HP.

On the other hand, they can be disabled on purpose for extra security. If this is the case you need to contact HP who should be able to help you reset the password after verifying you as the owner.

There is no other way to bypass the password that I know of if those buttons are truly broken.

    Hi

Well you have then ONLY one chance to do so, which is:

If you can;t use the Clear and Reset buttons then, you must contact HP support to recover from a lost password. The steps for this operation are:

    1. Contact HP support and provides the switchâ s MAC address and a random offset generated by the switch.
The offset value for the password recovery feature is obtained by entering pwrecover at the password prompt.
    2. HP support issues a â one-time useâ password that enables access to the switch.
    3. When this password is used, the switch generates a new random offset that is used to authenticate the new password.

You can disable this password-recovery scheme with the:
    (Config)#no front-panel security password-recovery

I wish you really can handle this problem and sort it out.

Don;t forget to Assign Points for posts you get.

    Good Luck !!!
