    Hi guys,

I am struggling to find useful and updated information about APs integration with RFID tags (active and passive)?

    Any recommendations?

Have you implemented anything similar in the last 12 months?

    Hi Gabriel,

Yes, we've explored similar integrations recently. While Aruba Access Points (especially with Wi-Fi 6 support) don't natively support direct passive RFID tag reading, they can work well in conjunction with active RFID systems or BLE-based asset tracking.

Here are a few pointers based on recent implementations:

    1. Active RFID / BLE Tags: Aruba APs, especially those supporting BLE (like the AP-5xx and 6xx series), can detect BLE-based active tags. Aruba's Meridian platform and Asset Tracking solutions are designed for this use case-ideal for hospitals, campuses, and warehouses.

    2. Passive RFID: For passive RFID (e.g., UHF, HF), Aruba APs do not serve as readers, but you can use network connectivity to power and backhaul data from RFID readers (Zebra, Impinj, etc.) to your central applications. Aruba's robust PoE switches and ClearPass can help secure and authenticate those readers.

    3. Aruba Edge Services Platform (ESP): If you're using Aruba Central or ESP, you can layer IoT services and analytics on top, integrating data from third-party RFID readers or BLE sensors for real-time dashboards or alerts.

    Recommendation:

    • For passive RFID, integrate dedicated RFID readers with Aruba's network infrastructure.

    • For active/BLE tags, look into Aruba's Meridian + third-party BLE tag partners like Kontakt.io or AiRISTA.

Let me know your use case (asset tracking, security, attendance, etc.), and I can share a more tailored suggestion.

    Best regards,
