  • 1.  Should I Update My AP-515 to AOS-10.4.1.5?

    Posted Nov 19, 2024 09:30 AM

    Hi everyone,

I'm managing these APs through Aruba Central, and I'm considering updating my AP-515 access points from firmware version 10.4.1.3_90100 to the newer AOS-10.4.1.5_91019. Based on the release notes, this update seems to bring several significant improvements, including:

    1. Fixes for Latency and Packet Loss: Issues with intermittent latency and packet drops have been addressed, which should provide better stability.

    2. Unexpected Reboot Fixes: The update solves problems causing APs to reboot unexpectedly due to kernel crashes.

    3. Client Reauthentication Improvements: Problems with clients not reconnecting after deauthentication have been fixed.

I've attached an image showing my current firmware version and the update option. Before proceeding, I'd like to know:

    • Is this version stable in a production environment?

    • Has anyone seen significant benefits from applying this update?

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
I can give you my personal opinion of my lab and that is that it works well with several APs models 303H, 505 and 535. In production I still have 10.4.1.4, I haven't upgraded to 10.4.1.5 yet, but in Central I don't see a big difference between one and the other, AI Insight still works on both of them quite well, as well as the other options as far as I've seen. It's true that 10.4.1.4 works quite well for me, and I haven't had any problems with either Access Point or Gateways. If it is the version recommended by Aruba Central, it is stable, otherwise they would recommend the previous version.
One of the options that you can take into account if you want to upgrade to this latest version, is the vulnerabilities that are fixed in this version, in addition to the points that you commented that you will have seen in the release note. I attach the link for you to take a look at the vulnerabilities of the previous versions to this new version 10.4.1.5

Thank you for sharing your experience, Daniel! It's great to know that version 10.4.1.4 worked well for you and that 10.4.1.5 seems promising in your lab tests. I'll go ahead with the upgrade, especially considering the fixes you mentioned. Thanks a lot for the link!

10.4.1.5 is the lastest LSR release and i run it without any issues by more than 10 large customers.

Side note that when having AP-615 of AP-503 10.4.x.x is not supported and beter can go for 10.7.0.1 SSR.

Thank you, Marcel, for your valuable feedback! In my current site, I have both AP-315 and AP-515 models. As shown in Aruba Central, the recommendation is to update both to version 10.4.1.5. I appreciate your suggestion, and I am considering this version since it seems stable across many deployments you've mentioned. Thanks again for sharing your experience!
