  • 1.  Smart devices on Captive Portal Guest Access disconnects frequently

    We have a BYOD Wireless network that uses a RAdius Server to authenticate our users against Active Dirrectly User accounts.

    The BYOD wireless network also is using a captive portal where the user is prompted to a web page automatically and there they must enter their Company network username and password.  The authentication works well but the problem is that the  smart device disconnects 5-10 mutes later or earlier if the phone is put in someone's pocket.

    This has happend ever sicne we started using Aruba from version 8.3 to 8.7 to 8.10.  The same smart devices do not have this problem, if they login to another SSID that we have designated for full access to our network.  We do not want to put smart devices on our network hence we have a separate SSID for these devices with a portal. 

    My question is how can I prevent these smart devices from disconnecting from this captive portal - authentication network?  Is teh problem with the smart devices because the same problem is not happening with the laptop if they connect to BYOD.  One may see questions: https://community.arubanetworks.com/discussion/captive-portal-frequent-disconnects

    Does your smart devices or phones got Randomize mac or private mac settings on?

    Also - please share with us the running cfg with the part of your AAA profile 

    Also - What version you running right now?  8.10.XX???

    I do not have my phone to randomize the MAC address.

    I have version 8.10.0.2 installed on the Mobility Conductor and the Mobility Controllers.  But this problem was present from version 8.3.0.3 and has nto changed with newer versions.

    The configuration information is attached.  I hope this will help.

    Maybe best to have a look at this with your Aruba Partner or Aruba support. It would be important to realize what is going on, find a way to replicate the behavior, check the user table and see when users are added, when removed, if you see WLAN connects/disconnects. Also, configuring MAC Caching (ClearPass can do that) for captive portal may resolve at least the symptoms. Is this open? Or PSK/802.1X network?
