    Hi,

I would like to request your recommendation regarding an STP incident that occurred in our network and ask for the best practice to prevent similar outages in the future.

Our network topology consists of an Access Switch connected to the Core Switch via an uplink, with the Core Switch.

During the incident, a Layer 2 loop occurred on an access port of the Access Switch. Although the Access Switch detected the loop and blocked the affected port, the Core Switch had already blocked its downlink towards the Access Switch due to STP. As a result, communication between the Access Switch and Core Switch was interrupted, causing a network outage.

For future optimization, I would like to understand the recommended design and configuration approach to ensure that Layer 2 loops are detected and isolated at the Access Switch level before they can impact the Core Switch. The goal is to prevent the Core Switch from blocking the downlink towards the Access Switch and avoid a major network outage.
