Hi there... I have a hp tx1000 and also had a wirless card that worked fine for over a year and then just all of a sudden stopped working and was not showing up in my device manager. I went through all the same steps with hp and it did not work also. it almost seems like there was a short and it was not recognizing my wireless card. i went to best buy and bought a Linksys range Plus wireless network USB adapter and I just plug it into one of my usb ports load the software it comes with and I am up and running perfectly. it actually seems to work better with my linksys wirelss router that I run in my home. It cost me 70 bucks but I was up and running in minutes and did not have to deal with hp again nor worry about bringing my computer in for repair. I searched online and you can find the same item on ebay for as low as 20 bucks... i hope this helps!
