  • 1.  use of 10G SFP modules on the HP-2530-48G-2SFPP , HP 2530-24 and HP-2530-8G-PoEP switches

    Hi 
    I was wondering if it's possible to use 10G SFP modules on those switches
    I have upgraded them to the last firmware YA_16_11_0026 but it does not seem to recognize them
    i have the option the  "allow-unsupported-transceiver" command to enable 3rd party transeivers

    The HP-2530-48G-2SFPP has 2 ports SFP+ which gives you 1/10Gbps

    I am not sure if HP 2530-24 and HP-2530-8G-PoE has 10G, as far as i have seen on the Datasheet, the Aruba 2530-24 Switch (J9782A) and Aruba 2530-8G-PoE+ Switch (J9774A)  has only 1G Ports

    thats correct he Aruba 2530-24 Switch (J9782A) and Aruba 2530-8G-PoE+ Switch (J9774A)  has only 1G Ports

    Thank you for the info , 

    the problem is that the HP-2530-48G-2SFPP does not recognize my 10g module connection remains down 

    i have tried 2 new module from FS multimode

    is there something else I could try ?

    There is a compatibility matrix of SFP which work for specific switches:

    Aruba/HPE does not guarantee non-Aruba or non-HPE branded optics or DACs will work reliably.

    You can run the command: allow-unsupported-transceiver 
    And then check the status of the interface, but even 3rd party transceivers most of the time have to be specific for the Partnumber/Model of the switch. 
    If you order 3rd party transceiver for HP-2530-48G-2SFPP and it doesn't work, you should check with your SFP supplier, because they might have the wrong code in it and the switch is not supported / or lets say switch will not support the SFP.

    Is there anything there in logs entries at that time when you plug in transceiver to switch?

    How about "show tech transceivers" after you have plugged module in?

    Hello Peter,

    HP-2530-48G-2SFP+ (2 SFP+ uplink ports)
    Only the 2 uplink ports labeled SFP+ on this model are for 10 GbE; the other SFP slots are for 1 GbE. (The HP/Aruba 2530-48G-2SFP+ data sheet explicitly states this.)

    Be sure to insert the module into the 10G uplink ports labeled "SFP+". If the label on the chassis says SFP, that port is 1G; it does not support 10G.

    The 10GBASE-SR module will not link to a device with 1G SFP on the other end. The remote end must also have 10G SFP+ SR/LR. (The 10G SFP+ module will not downgrade to 1G.)

    SR modules require OM3/OM4 MMF and LC-LC. SR does not work with SMF (OS2) patch. If you are going through a patch panel, verify the polarity (A-B); if the cross is wrong, the link will not come at all. (J9150A/J9150D SR types are subject to these requirements.)
