  • 1.  Verify and Disable BLE Radios on APs

    Posted Jan 27, 2024 08:42 AM

    Hi all,

I'm trying to verify the status of the BLE radios on our access points. I was under the impression these were disabled by default, but in reading some documentation, it's unclear to me if that's the case or not. We're running 8.10.0.6 and I don't see an option for the BLE Operating Mode under the AP System Profile anymore. Is there a way to verify the BLE radios are active and if so, how to go about disabling them now?

    Thank you!

    Hey Mike

Hope you're doing well.  I know this thread is 2 years old but I stumbled across it searching for an answer that has been bugging us for a few months and thought maybe you were asking for the same reason.  We recently replaced some older APs with 635s and then the BLE locks in the area started randomly dropping offline.  The lock company was saying it was due to BLE interference in the area but Aruba TAC was stating that all BLE was disabled on the APs.  Just a couple of weeks ago a new release was put out (8.10.0.21) which had a fix for bug AOS-266331 - "
In some AP-63x series access points, BLE radio was Enabled, even when IoT was not configured. BLE should be disabled on all access points by default. The fix ensures that BLE radio is disabled by default. This issue was observed in devices running AOS-8.10.0.9 or later versions.".  Testing on our lab we could see BLE still broadcasting from 635s even tho no profile exists.  Upgrading the lab to 8.10.0.21 appears to have corrected this.  We will be upgrading the buildings this weekend and we can then see if it corrected the lock issue.

Again - not sure if you were asking for a similar reason but thought I'd share our experience.

    Jeff

Keep in mind that the BLE radio on our access points is only disabled by default on TAA variants of those access points. From the 630 Series IG:

    Hey Jeff,

I don't recall the reason behind my original post, it was either security-related (audit requirement to prove they are disabled) or troubleshooting a similar issue. Either way, I think you are on the right track, let us know how you make out with the upgrade!
