Wireless Access

I had the W200 (wireless lan module running on Win2K. Moved to Windows XP Pro, with a fresh install, and got signal, but cannot connect to a Linksys WAP11. This all worked under Windows 2K. Any ideas?

If you had WEP enabled before you will need to re-enter the alphanumeric code or if not check to see that the WEP is unchecked

This is the same problem I have. I am running the W200 wireless LAN module that connects to the lid of my n800w on Windows XP professional. My WAP is also a Linksys WAP11 and I get no signal at all. Please let me know if you make any progress with this issue. I have tried every setting on both the WAP and the card and spent hours on the phone with Compaq and Linksys tech support. Any help is greatly appreciated. It is interesting to hear that this did work when you were running Windows 2000. It sounds like it might be related to the driver for the W200 on XP. Is compaq aware of this problem?

Did you have the w200 working with the WAP11 on Windows2000. I can't find anyone who has made them work together. Were you using WEP?

I am convinced that the W200 and Linksys WAP11 are incompatible when running Windows XP. I have not tried Windows 2000. Compaq support has no interest in supporting Linksys WAP11 since "it is a commercial product and the W200 is an enterprise product". That is a quote from a support representative from Compaq.

Looks like I'm in the same boat, running Windows XP and the w200 will NOT see the network from the Linksys WAP11. Other 802.11 cards are fine, and I can see other WAP's at work so I know both devices physicall work, just not togeather. I called Compaq support and they said call linksys, I called Linksys and they said call Compaq. If anyone figures this out I would love to know!

My situation is a little differant. I recently installed a w200 into my N800W running XPPRO connecting to a Linksys WAP11. Mine connects when it wants to, or I have to disable then enable for a connection that last only a minute. Compact tech support was no good as they told me things that I allready new. Ken the tech from Ontario Canada was not the brightest indiviual that I have spoke too either. So if answer does come up resolving your issue I would be interested..

I have a similar problem with xp, the w200, and the linksys befw11s4. windows says no connection is avaliable but when i do an ipconfig it shows i have an ip address, and i can browse the network and the internet so i HAVE a connection, but when i right click on the icon and click view avaliable networks everything's greyed out.

I've cleared up a lot of my WinXP + w200 + linksys problems by stopping the wireless zero configuration service shortly after boot (i.e. right after it gets me connected to the AP). For those getting this far, it seems to be the thing to do.

You can do this either using the services UI under Administrative Tools, or from the command line with:

net stop "Wireless Zero Configuration"

I have an EVO N610c with a W200 - the W200 can't connect (or get any kind of signal for that matter) to a DWL-2000AP (D-Link) access point.

The W200 is supposed to be 802.11b complient, but as far as not being able to connect to my AP then it doesn't seem to be the case.

I have used other wireless network cards on the same laptop and have no issues at all; is there a fix for this? I've seen other people post with issues connecting to other vendor's APs too.

All latest BIOS, drivers and patches have been applied too.

It's pretty pathetic when the W200 claims to be 802.11b compatible but can't even get so much as a signal from the AP!

BEFW11S4 V.2 & W200 - After updating drivers & firmware I still experienced symptoms listed in this thread. I finally resolved my issue by changeing the Linksys Wireless Channel from 6(factory default) to 1. Everything is happy now...

Previous post omitted that OS is XP Professional.

I can get my W200 to work with an older Compaq AP (don't know the model, but it only has 64 bit WEP) and it works. I can not get it to work with my Linksys WAP11 2.2 unless I completely disable WEP. Then it works just fine. Neither 64 or 128 bit WEP will work when using the Linksys. I am using 1.09 version of the firmware on the Linksys and I'll try updating to 1.1. I doubt highly this will correct the problem.

I was having problems with the W200's connection only lasting a few seconds. It would show a full signal, and then it would show no signal. A few minutes later, it might jump back up to a full signal again, but only for a few seconds. I was using the latest driver 1.0C from Compaq. When I installed the older version of the driver (1.0B), everything works great!

Same problem as well with the W200, however I did get it to work after a day or so. I have the Evo n610c runnung Win2k. I use the linksys router befw11s4 v2. Like most it works with the linksys card but not the W200. Again like some posting I have read I get a strong signal but no IP. I finally concluded that the W200 does not register in the linksys DHCP table. It never appeard. Strangely, I would get a valid IP for a minute then lose it but it still never showed in the linksys DHCP. BTW when I had the IP I still could not hit the web or my LAN.

How I got a connection was by setting a static IP address. Unpon reboot, success. I did a lot but for the recored:

1. I did try the pervious W200 driver but no luck for me. Both the latest & old W200 driver work for the static IP.
2. Before this all started I was at 128 bit encryp. I dropped it down to 64 bit using 4 keys manually generated. I manaully entered in router as well as the W200 client manager. I will try 128 tonight.

It was painful but just wanted to add my two cents. The down side to this is that I will have to set the TCP\IP back to standard when visiting friends with a linksys since I am static.
