Wireless Access

For some reason my printers started loosing the print jobs. I have a couple computers and 2 HP laserJet printers hooked up to a Netgear router. They were working fine until recently. They are all Hardwire connected. My problems seem to have started about the time I added a netgear access point for wireless laptop connectivity. It is connected to the other router but nothing is plugged into it. When I send a print job to the printer it shows up in the Que for a couple seconds and then dissapears, as tho it is going to the printer. The laptops are haveing the same problem. The printers are working fine. I can ping them and they respond fine, and when I print a test page from the printer menu it prints fine and the configuration looks right. I Just can't figure out why they are not printing

check DHCP settings.
Maybe on both routers a DHCP server is active wich interfere.

Enable security in the wireless router.
If your network is open and that of your neighbour too, you may use the same ip-adresses and prints come out nextdoor.

DHCP is disabled on both routers as everything is set up static. It is both the wireless and the hardwired PC's that loose their print jobs. I can hook the printer to an LPT port on one computer and print via a shared port from another printer. I just can't print over the network. Today I temporarly added another wireless laptop and added the printer as a divice on it and I can print to the printer from that laptop, but so far, that is the only one that prints to it over the network.

When you turn off the wireless router, are you back to normal?

The printers are hooked up to the netgear and have their own network-interfaces/printserver and ip-adresses?
disconnect them or switch them off.
ping the ip-adresses.
if you get respons, it must be from outside through the wireless router.

most printervers/HPjetdirectcards have their own web-server, so you can also try to open http://<IP-ADRESS> in IE/FF, see what you get and is this your printer?

With this web-page open, on printer-status, send a job to the printer, do you see a status change in the webpage?</IP-ADRESS>

No, when I turn off the wireless router nothing changes. When I turn off the printers and with the wireless router on I get a no response from the ping. I can't open an http:// page with the ip addresses. I am beginning to think it may be my router. When I log into my router and go to 'attached devices' sometimes the printers show up and sometimes they don't, but even when they do show up I still can't print to them.

You gave me an Idea. I had tried deleting the printer and reinstalling it on each computer with no results but I hadn't tried deleting the ports on each computer. I deleted the printers, then deleted the ports and reinstalled the printers creating new ports and replaced the existing drivers. It worked. I can now print to them from all the computers. When you mentioned the print servers it got me to thinking about the ports. Thanks for you help.
