  • 1.  Which version to choose between LSR and SSR?

    Hello,
     
    Next Saturday, I'm upgrading a cluster of 81 IAPs made up of AP305, AP375, AP505 and then adding 5 AP565s to the cluster to replace AP275s..
     
    I'm completely lost in the different code versions available...
    Currently, the cluster is in version 8.6.0.3 and the new terminals are in version 8.10.0.8.
     
    Which version is more stable, 8.10.0.12 (LSR) or 8.12.0.1 (SSR)? They were released almost at the same time...
     
    Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
     
    PS : The question has perhaps already been raised on the discussion thread, but I confess I don't have the time to go through it all...

    generally i would recommend to go with LSR as it is supported for longer period of  time. SSR is used for bringing new features/platforms and they have on average 1x year support after which you need to upgrade to another version.

    Okay, thank you for your reply.
    So the LSR version is no more stable than the SSR version?
     
    To differentiate between the two types:
    LSR updates such as 8.10.x.x are bug fixes for previous versions, whereas 8.12.0.0 updates are either add-ons in terms of functionality, and then (8.12.0.1) fixes for new functionality?

    Just to clarify the versioning pattern we use.

    X.Y.O.P. 

    • X is the major release including major architectural changes (AOS-6, AOS-8, AOS-10 for example)
    • Y is the minor release used to introduce significant features and new hardware
    • O is also used to introduce new hardware (8.7.1, 8.11.1, 8.11.2 for example)
    • P is used for patches / bugfixes

    8.12.0.0 added several new features listed here: https://www.arubanetworks.com/techdocs/ArubaOS_8.12.0_Web_Help/Content/arubaos-solutions/whats_new.htm

    8.12.0.x can include patches for features introduces in 8.12 or features released in earlier versions. So, if there is a bug found in 8.10.0.x, the patch to fix the bug would be applied to both 8.10.0.x and 8.12.0.x (at this period in time of writing since those are currently both supported).
