  • 1.  ZTP woes with CX-6000/6100 switches

    Posted 27 days ago

Can anyone confirm that there is no way to use ZTP to provision and configure CX6000/6100 switches without a MGMT Interface if:

    • You do not want to use static IP's for the management address
    • You do not want to use and manage it using the default VLAN 1 interface

A factory clean switch that uses DHCP on VLAN 1 to connect to Central cannot be configured with a dedicated management VLAN using a DHCP enabled SVI - because CX cannot enable DHCP on more than one interface, and you cannot remove it from VLAN 1 because the switch then looses connection to Central and reverts after a while.

Is there no other way than a Console connection to preconfigure it manually before import in Central - Or temporarily assign a Static IP to the switch along with manually providing more than one VLAN uplink after initial ZTP?

AOS-CX 10.16 supports ZTP using USB. So it aZTP (almost zero touch) until switches come with 10.16 preinstalled ...

Please check the according Fundamentals Guide for details.

I think with firmware 10.17, all the VLANs on that platform supports  DHCP

Loking forward to that - It's a major oversight that you can't really do ZTP without manual intervention and several different steps (needs to be coordinated) on the 6000/6100 if you need management from another VLAN than VLAN 1.

10.17.x is already available. if you have time you can test it out.

10.17 supports dhcp on all vlan, but neither Classic nor New Central supports this. New Central still says: CX device doesn't support configuring DHCP-Client on more than one VLAN. Any timeline for when central will support this?

I managed to get this working via MultiEdit in Classic.

But no option for it in GUI as far as I can see.

    Sorry. got you wrong.

I posted an idea (https://innovationzone.arubanetworking.hpe.com/ideas/CNX-I-360) for solving this kind of problem.

In Classic Central you could use templates to achieve moving your DHCP SVI to another VLAN without loosing connection to the switch at all. If it would be possible to pre-provision certain device specific configuration parts or pause syncing could help to deal with bigger networks.
