    Hi,

I tried to update my 5500 yesterday only to find out I don't have enough free space in flash. I kept getting error writing local file when I did the ftp command. I did a dir and found an old firmware version. I did a delete s4b03_01_06s56.app (or similar filename) and then did a dir again. The flash wasn't freed. I did a save and then rebooted and the flash still says 4106KB free which isn't enough for the upgrade. What did I need to do to free the flash?

    Thanks,

    Hi Greg.

Did you deleted the file using the command "delete <FILENAME.APP>? The 5500 switches still stores the deleted files in the recycle bin after this command; you need to issue the command "reset recycle-bin" in the user view.

To delete a file without store it in the recycle bin the command is "delete /unreserved <FILENAME>".

    </FILENAME></FILENAME.APP>

Ok, I just had the following... I forgot to use the /unreserved option...

Note: This is actually for an A7500 (JD240B) switch, not the 5500, but its comware, is its the same issue

When I look, its in the recycle bin (sort of) but I have no idea how to actually delete it out of there as none of the previous delete commands work... Clues? (and yes, I know I can't make that big an upgrade... sigh)

Ok, I managed to answer my own question. I'm so used to the manual being useless that its not my first resource anymore... but in this case...

    <LHR-CORE-SW>reset recycle-bin
    Clear flash:/~/7500-cmw520-r6708p03-us.app ?[Y/N]:y
Clearing files from flash may take a long time. Please wait...

    %Cleared file flash:/~/7500-cmw520-r6708p03-us.app...

I know it is not an intuitive command, but manual seems clear to me:

Look for Fundamentals configuration guide on support site.

This is a sample direct link to the pdf:

    http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.BINARYPORTLET/public/kb/docDisplay/resource.process/?spf_p.tpst=kbDocDisplay_ws_BI&spf_p.rid_kbDocDisplay=docDisplayResURL&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&spf_p.rst_kbDocDisplay=wsrp-resourceState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c02987056-2%257CdocLocale%253Den_US&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken

Look on page 97-98 (File operations, deleting files, recover files and empty recycle-bin).

    Hope this helps.

I do agree that the HP support site should better organize their docs, by release/date/modules etc. Right now all wireless module config guides are stored together with the chassis config guides, which I personally find confusing.

    Best regards,Peter.

I didn't empty the recycle bin.

    Thanks,
