  • 1.  Changes to initial setup on 610 series APs?

    Posted Jan 17, 2024 03:32 PM

    Hello everyone,

I just purchased a few 615 APs for one of our remote sites.  I disconnected the existing APs and installed the new ones and am working on starting from scratch with the configuration.  In the past I would just connect to the allocated IP of the wired connection with a browser and run through the setup of the virtual controller.  This is not happening for me.  I get a "Provisioning" web page that comes up with no options to really configure the AP.  There's the ability to set a static IP, clear the config or set the mobility controller IP, that's about it.  We always set these up as an IAP with a virtual controller and then add the APs to the cluster as they come online.  Is this no longer possible?  Seems I'm missing something.  Both the new APs are doing the same thing. There is an access point setup section where it gives you the option to browse to an image.  Is this a firmware image or a configuration file?

Thanks for any help in advance.

AP-615s need a min instant OS version of 8.11. Are you running 8.11 on them?

Take a look into Aruba Quick Software Deployment Guide.

On Factory Image you do have an option to select the deployment type. If AP has access to Activate, it can automatically download the FW file. If not, you need to download required FW file from asp.arubanetworks.com and provide it to the AP.

Some APs will ship with an extremely limited image from the factory when hardware is first released as the software isn't ready for installation at the factory yet.  Those APs, when operating in a new environment where automatic download from other devices (Activate, controller, virtual controller, or Central) is not available will need a firmware image provided.

Go to asp.arubanetworks.com, grab the latest 8.11.x.x release, upload to the AP(s).
