To replace one faulty IRF member, I think the following steps.

    1. Power off the faulty switch and remove all physical cables.
    2. Configure IRF settings including Member ID, Priority and IRF ports on the new switch without any cabling.
    3. Save the configuration.
    4. Replace the faulty switch with the new switch.
    5. Connect physical ports assigned as IRF ports between the existing current master switch and the new switch for IRF Links. (Note: The new switch should not be powered on at this step.)
    6. Power on the new switch. After the new switch's booting, it joins the IRF fabric. If its firmware version is same as the master, the firmware on it will be updated automatically.
    7. The running-config will be synced but the startup-confg is not saved on the new switch. By "save" command, it will be saved as a configuration file.
